A new qualification bringing essential oils, vegetable oils, hydrolats, and plant actives together into one connected approach to therapeutic formulation.
For a long time, working therapeutically with plants has meant working within a single tradition at a time — essential oils in one place, carrier oils in another, hydrolats and plant actives somewhere else again.
Integrative Therapeutic Formulation treats therapeutic formulation as a discipline in its own right: the materials are understood together, chosen for how they work alongside one another, and brought to bear on what a particular person actually needs.
That last part is the heart of it.
Rather than starting from a favourite oil or a familiar recipe, the formulator starts from the person — and reasons towards a formulation that is considered, safe, and genuinely fit for its purpose.
Integrative Therapeutic Formulation is designed for practitioners who already work with people — therapists, complementary and holistic practitioners, and health professionals — and who want to bring more depth and structure to their work with plant materials.
It’s also for experienced formulators and serious independent learners who are drawn to the therapeutic side of the craft, and for anyone keen to understand where therapeutic formulation can go when it’s given room to grow.
You don’t need to come from any one background. What connects everyone it’s for is the same thing: a wish to work with plant materials thoughtfully, and to understand the reasoning behind every choice rather than follow a recipe.
Purodem is a professional course provider with a long track record in formulation and aromatherapy education, and we’ve always taught formulation as one connected craft — taking plant-based ingredients and bringing them together into something safe, stable, and genuinely useful.
Integrative Therapeutic Formulation is the natural next step on the therapeutic side of that craft: a qualification that gives this way of working the structure and the standing it deserves.
